So… are there Termites in Southern Nevada?? The Answer is YES and it is something that everyone needs to be a aware of. This is not only a Southern Nevada or Mesquite issue as termites can be found in everywhere in the US with the exception of Alaska. Termites do thrive in warmer climates and are known to have the most activity in the South, Southeast, West and Southwest.
The right combination of food, moisture, and warmth can attract these silent destroyers. It is estimated that termites cause $5 billion dollars annually to property in the US alone according to the National Pest Management Foundation. This is more of a threat to “stick built” or wood homes than fire, flood and wind combined… yet many know little about termites.

This past week The Long Drivers of America put on another great show Thursday through Sunday (August 27-30, 2009). The Desert Dual Competition and World Long Drive Regional Qualifying took place in Mesquite NV. The winner of the open event was Jeff Gavin who received a check for $10,000 for his effort. The senior division winner was a man that is no stranger to Long Drive winners circle Bobby Wilson. Bobby received a check for $ 3,000 dollars . Check out Bobby’s wardrobe. If you’re a John Daly fan now you know who designs his clothing. Bobby’s clothing was almost as hot as the weather, at 113 degrees!
Those qualifying will be eligible for the Re/Max World Long Drive Competition at the end of October this year. If you miss the event it will be broadcast on ESPN on December 25, 2009. This is a Christmas tradition on ESPN. The Long Drive Competition has been held in Mesquite Nevada for many years and with the new facilities we hope it stays.

On Aug. 25, 2009 the city of Mesquite received the first deposit of funds from Desert Falls International Sport Resort LLC. The check was for $316,002.50 and represents 5% down for the land on the west side of Mesquite NV which it currently has purchase contract with the City of Mesquite.
This comes as big news. With the troubled economy many people, including members on the city council, were unsure if Desert Falls would come up with the down payment. What intensified the drama was that they waited until the second to last day to get the money in.

Mailers were received by Mesquite property owners between Aug. 17-22 informing them that they were eligible for a property tax savings. The forms looked official and had individual property addresses as well as Clark County Tax APN#’s. The mailers look to be official, however, they are an alleged scam.
It claimed, to get this savings you would need to pay a $189 processing fee along with filling out the forms and sending them back. The Nevada Attorneys General office has issued a fraud alert. It said, “promises are made on faulty data and a Nevada property owner will probably see no savings.”
It appears that The Property Tax Review Board has received tens of thousands of dollars from Home owners in California, Nevada and Arizona. They currently have a suit filed against them from the California Attorney General Edmond G Brown Jr. The suit alleges that services promised were almost never performed. Arizona Attorney Generals office claim that they have also issued a complaint against The Property Tax Review Board. The Property Tax Board is based in California.
