Mesquite Real Estate Association consists of REALTORS, licensed assistants, appraisers, lenders and builders that unite in the greater Mesquite NV area and agree to high professional standards.
The Mesquite Real Estate Association has approximately 170 members, of which about 150 are licensed real estate brokers or agents. The MREA is governed by a 10 Board of Directors, which are local agents and brokers. The MREA Board of Directors are elected by the membership to serve a 2 year term and generally meet monthly.
Why do REALTORS belong to the MREA or any other association? There are many reasons here are a few:
- Access to the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS). This maybe the most important reason overall to belong to an association. This provides REALTORS access to inventory homes to sell to potential clients. Without this MLS system each agent would work only show their listings because they would have no way of knowing if other Nevada Brokers would cooperate with them in the sale.
- Professional Standards ensure all agents are playing by the rules. The MREA has bylaws and rules and regulations that outline what is acceptable and not acceptable. When agents do not follow rules they can be fined by the association or terminated from the Mesquite Real Estate Association. This gives us an opportunity to police ourselves and our own real estate community. If agents break state rules we can submit those problems to the Nevada Real Estate Division, who can also administer fines and revoke real estate licenses.
- MREA helps organize Real Estate training and education. The MREA has a number of different meetings and trainings that happen. The MREA meets monthly at either a general membership meeting or luncheon to discuss important events and other issues effecting the Mesquite real estate. There is also a tour of homes to enable REALTORS to share their listings with others. Continuing education classes that are promoted by the MREA for agents to attend where law and legislation, contracts, agency and ethics are required classes. Continuing education classes are required for all Nevada real estate brokers and agents to attend.
- Access to Legal Advice regarding real estate. This is one of my favorite reasons! Many associations including the Greater Las Vegas Association of REALTORS and the Nevada Association of REALTORS have attorneys on staff that can help with legal council in the event of potential or pending litigation. This alone is worth the price of admission!
- Networking with other members and brokers and tracking trends. Like many types of sales, networking is one of the best methods to find new clients. Many agents network with others within the MREA and share information and trends. As we start to see the market shift, or as legislation changes it is important that we as an association can adapt to the changes.
- Community Service and Neighborhood Clean-up Projects. It is important that an association is able to give back to the community. The Mesquite Real Estate Association has held numerous campaigns to serve the community. The last community service project was held in May 2009 in which our Mesquite Real Estate Association had agents who volunteered to cleaned up the Sierra Ridge neighborhood. The half built homes and model homes in this area were overgrown with weeds, it had been abandoned by the builder and was an eye sore to the community. Service projects like this are a win-win for the REALTORS and the community.
In conclusion, by having a local real estate association is good for the community and good for the agents involved. The security of homes has drastically increased due to the Mesquite Real Estate Association only allowing electronic lock boxes to be left on homes. These electronic lock boxes can track every agent’s key and what homes they have opened.
The access to information is at an all time high. Promotion of listings in Mesquite NV on the Internet has been a huge hit. These are just a few reason why we are proud members of the MREA.
