This weekend we drove over the Hoover Dam just outside of Las Vegas Nevada one of the seven wonders of the world to check on the progress of the by Hover Dam bypass highway that is being built over top of Hoover Dam. This is an incredible under taking that appears to rival the dam itself for ingenuity and engineering.
When you look at the pictures with this article notice the cables and pulley system over the top of the structure. This is how they bring in materials to the construction crews working on the structure. The bridge and by pass are scheduled to be completed sometime in 2010. The bridge itself is around 2000 feet long spanning the Colorado river. The is about 900 feet under the bridge. The bridge will cost $114,000,000.00 when completed and will surely be another wonder to behold.
Most of the roadway on the Nevada side of the bridge is completed already. The bulk of the roadway on Arizona side well under way with several smaller bridges under construction at this time. The bypass run all the way past Willow Park in Arizona on the Colorado River the Park features a marina and a beach area. There is also a small convenience store as well. If you are looking for a little side trip that will prove both interesting and mind boggling I highly recommend a visit to the Hoover Dam even if you have seen the Dam and liked it. You will definitely like what you see on the return visit.
If you would like more information or to follow the construction process go to Yahoo and type in Hoover Dam Bypass and you find a link to see the entire construction program with great pictures.

In 1939 My Father took me to the Hover Dam Construction Site while it was being built.
It was very impressive as a boy. Today this is another major even in our countries future. It is very impressive.
Today my wife and I have been involved in the start of 4 schools for poverty children in Peru. Along with these major projects another great even is in process today because of modern day Engineering and that is in process even to this day in Peru. It is the construction of a tunnel through the Mountains there some 7000 feet below the top of the mountain in cooperation with another large Dam that will hold back to waters of the Amazon River to provide water for the farmers on the Pacific Ocean in Peru because of another great construction project where the tunnel is being drilled through the mountains there to provide the farmers water to the low land there will hold the water back and make that part of Peru fertile. These are great events in human engineering that I marvel at today. Thanks for the great work of human Engineering.
God Bless
Keep up the good work Boys.
