2010 Military Long Drive Championship

Last night the Military Long Drive Championship was held in Mesquite Nevada. The winner was Ryan Hixon with a drive of 387 yards. This was Ryans fourth consecutive year as the militaries champion long driver. Congratulations Ryan. While the competition for the long drive is the main event. Art Sellinger of the Long Drivers Association puts on a spectacular program honoring our Armed Forces personnel. This is the third year in a row that Art has paid tribute to the military. This years main attraction once again were the wounded military people that have so honorably protected the American people over seas risking life and limb for freedom. There was a parachute jumper that landed right on the tee box to the delight of the entire crowd.

Dana Bowman is a member of the  Golden Knights member who lost both his legs in an accident a few years ago and is a very impressive man with  the most positive attitude one could ever encounter. After listening to his speech. I was truly inspired by this mans attitude on life. Art also had another surprise in store for every one when he introduced Butch Harmon, one of the most renowned golf instructors in the world. Butch had 6 military men that had lost limbs over seas that he had been instructing in LasVegas

For a few days before the competition to hit ceremonial tee shots to kick off the competition. All performed admirably. Mr Harmon helped Emcee the competition. and was very entertaining.. Butch Harmon has instructed such notables as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and is currently instructing Dustin Johnson is one of the up and coming golfers on the PGA Tour. Thank you Art Sellinger for bringing

These fine Americans to Mesquite. It is truly an honor to be in their presense. This article was written by Buck Schaeffel of the Mesquite Group from Bowler Realty.
